Betz's delicious dark variant on a rosé presents in a vibrant deep mulberry robe with an aroma of cherry/berry fruit. It is medium-bodied with a straightforward fruitiness that bespeaks its Rhone-grape roots. Primarily Grenache, this is a gurgling baby sister to the Betz Besoleil. It is terrific with a bit of a chill and still has a touch of acid and wisps of tannin to balance the fruit and keep the finish light. Slightly disappointed not to taste the white pepper that one might hope for from 15% Counoise. Still, a wonderful change from the sticky strawberry juice rosés that abound in the market.

The wine is 42% Grenache and lesser amounts of Syrah, Cinsaut and Counoise. The dark color of the wine is atypical. There is a touch of heat on the nose. Dark cherries, flowers and watermelon Jolly Rancher on the palate. Just a hint of spice on the finish.

Has that fresh fruit Rhone feel to it. Delicious with Mexican food served chilled.
