This bottle benefited from extended air. At 2.5 hours, the nose was more significantly tertiary than I expected based on a 'regular' 2010 Black Cat opened this winter. By hour four, though, both the bouquet and the palate were showing more fruit and that lifting acidity that seems to be a hallmark of these wines. My wife was particularly enamored with this one, summing up by saying, "Mmm...the Black Cat is good."
Purchased from winery 1 year ago. Perfect cork and fill. Dark red core, minimal lightening at the rim with no bricking. Nose a bit muted and musty on opening, clears up nicely after an hour and is really singing at 2 hours. Cherries, red raspberries, hint of fresh field greens in summer on the nose. Medium body, fresh fruit, excellent balancing acidity - a really classic balance - no uber-ripeness or heaviness here. Flavors follow the nose, some well-integrated tannins show up towards the end, medium finish. This should continue to drink well for another 5-10 years. Excellent.

An improvement over a recent regular 2010. It has a richness the other lacked with red fruit and florals and licorice towards the end. Acidity, tannins, and fruit are well balanced. The finish is not as short as the regular.

Plum jolly rancher with fine tannin. Extended air (Day 2) is improving it, strong acids.
