  • Translucent dark cherry color. Lots of ripe dark berries on the nose, bilberries and brambly blackberries prominently, with a bit sweeter supporting notes of juicy strawberries and ripe raspberries. Somewhat one-dimensional feel here. Contrasting the sweet nose, the wine is more fresh and dry on the palate with flavors of fresh flavors of bilberries, blueberries, some dried herbs, a little peppery spice and a hint of pine forest. Bright, high acidity gives the wine good freshness but the mouthfeel is still quite soft and mellow due to the friendly, unobtrusive ripe tannins. The contrast between the sweet nose and dry palate is noticeable, but it doesn't bother me one bit. The finish is a bit short, but fresh and balanced with quite dry flavors of ripe red fruits, aromatic herbs, a little bilberries and a hint of smoke. The high acidity gives the aftertaste a bright, refreshing finishing touch.

A pleasant, balanced, fruit-forward red but without any great depth or complexity. I'm still not convinced that you can do anything really serious out of Zweigelt, really. Decent and balanced everyday red wine, but with its rather straightforward character it feels a bit too expensive at 13,99€.
