Almaúnica Quatro Castas Vertical - 2010, 2011, and 2012.: This wine was already opened before we started our vertical, and we decided to drink it as an appetizer. And, although I'm not a big Syrah fan, this was a very nice surprise - it had a very interesting nose, with notes of spices and dark fruit. In the mouth, it was still going strong, although the bottle already had a ton of sediment. The tannins are fully resolved by this point. It's only real drawback is the short finish. Excellent QPR. 88-89pts.

- Ruby color with slow forming legs and aromas of phenolic. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of mushroom and grapefruit with a medium body. Linear texture with a medium finish - Good wine whose flavor is much better than its aroma. Smooth but not really spicy with a decent finish. Would definitely recommend at $12 or less.

Textbook example that the word "Reserve" means absolutely nothing. Vegetal nose and palate that eventually gives way to some sweet vanilla oak and cheap fruit. You could probably do worse at this price, but don't kid yourself that this is a good wine. It was good for cooking though, which is why I opened it.

Excelente syrah chileno. Está maduro, talvez no auge, e bastante redondo. Expressivo e de ótimo QPR. Uma grata surpresa.

aroma - plum, heavy red berry, cedar, burnt toast; taste - green, herby, chewy fruit, leathery tannins
