  • Apologies, notes from memory.

Like other have implied, the nose on this was unexpected - very light and almost undetectable at first evolving into a very light floral after an hour from decanting.

Likewise, the palate was interesting and evolved into a very layered and complex, starting with strawberry and blackberry and forest floor.

Really enjoyed this at the end.

  • Not entering a score as my experience seems so different from other tasters (including burgundy fanatics), and I had a small pour and
didn't have a chance to observe the wine over time. Heavily reduced, phenolic, concentrated -- cherry cola.

  • Liked this so much more on day 2 after corking half opened bottle. If you have this in the cellar wait another year or two. Loads of life yet.

  • On the earthy side, but in the best possible way. The nose shows black cherries and cranberries, but it is more dominated by dried roses, anise, meatiness and damp earth. The palate reflects the nose, with the fruit at the fore, which transitions to more peppery, earthy, stemmy notes, with a lingering graphite quality on the finish. The tannins are very smooth and seamlessly integrated, with medium+ acid and the body is on the lower side of medium, particularly for a California wine. This is in a very good place right now, but it has the stuffing to age for several more years.
