  • Tasted blind, it is an interesting blend of Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Merlot and small percentage of Pignolo.
Dark ruby, intense core and vibrant Crimson hue. Bottle breath for about 1+ hour.
It has a strong oak dominance nose with coconut and vanilla, along with some black fruits, black berry and sweet ripe fruits undertones.
On palate it exhibits rich ripe fruit, smooth but supple with nuances of black currant, dark cherry and some oakiness.
I guess this is an young Italian with ample of fruits and still dominant oak flavours. 18 months aging in barrique has a strong influence in this wine.

  • Opened this during a wine tasting session with my wine mates. Theme of the night: non-common grape varietals.

Mixed blend of Refosco, Merlot and Pignolo. I had no knowledge of 2 out of the 3 varietals, so this wine qualified for the theme.

The colour is dark, intense purplish-red, with a rich and elegant nose with plums and red cherries. The oak was very pronounced in the nose with some notes of vanilla.

On the palate the wine is well-structured with a long sweet finish. Generally well-balanced and the presence of tannins showed its age. Acidity is evident, with red fruits making this wine an interesting one to pair with red meats.
