Brought to dinner at Mezzaluna with Val/Chris/Stephanie. First bottle of this, bought at the PNV auction at release in 2012. Decanted 2 hours prior to dinner and rebottled. Had been open 3.5 hours when we drank it.
Dark, inky garnet. Nose of dark fruits, earth/dust, tea(?), graphite. Palate showing dark cherry, cassis, licorice, graphite, cedar and earth. Some sweetness through the mid palate. Tannins present but smoothed. Full body and long finish.
I remember liking this when purchased but no notes, I had no idea what to expect from this bottle. The decant made a big difference, a small splash when first opened was a bit more raisiny and without the graphite and dust. The Oakville appellation really comes through once the wine opens up. In a good spot now, can go another 10+ if wanting to cellar. Great showing on this evening 94+
