As usual, this is Chilean Syrah that's a bit plusher than, say, more traditional Rhône versions, and in the hands of a fine producer like Concha y Toro the usual is really good. The early aromatics suggest Cabernet Sauvignon, with loads of blackcurrant and plum, but there's also nice Syrah definition with black pepper, meat, and blackberry, along with vanilla, milk chocolate, and mild brown spice contributing (along with the ripe fruit) to the plushness and suggesting some New World manipulation of the varietal. But all is well in balance, hear at or near its peak, with soft but structured tannins and more than enough acidity to counter the ripe fruit, as well as some iron minerality coming later. Excess meatiness and bitterness late on the palate, an odd combination, as well as some overall thinning out (it's much less plush by the second day), keep this from being a 90.

Tasted blind. Clear, medium (+) to deep purple, with thick dark legs, very little signs of aging. The nose is clean, medium (+) to pronounced in intensity, with ripe black currant, alcohol, eucalyptus, vanilla, coconut and other oak-induced baking spices. The palate is dry, but fruit-forward, with medium acidity and medium (+) tannins. The alcohol is medium (+) to high at 14%. The body, flavor intensity and length are all medium (+). This is drinking well now, but would seemingly benefit from further aging. Everything points to New World for this surprisingly well-balanced, very reasonably-priced Syrah.

My best bottle out of the three. Harmonious - everything well integrated, inky, a bit of lavender added to the other-ways plushy appearance.

Yet fresh and fruity, interesting red plum - not very Syrah typical, nicely integrated oak, easy drinking with good weight, delivers for the price.

Still have a couple more years to go. Already soft after sometime opened, and tannins quite present.
