If you are holding this wine now, better drink up. Hope it's not too late like the 2 bottles I have opened since June, 2016. Both were corked. Very disappointing considering the reputation of this producer.

We got this bottle form Fess’ wine club in June, 2012. This wine pours DARK (almost black) and has a rich, spicy, earthy bouquet. About 1.5 years ago, we took the same wine (different vintage) to Laughlin to spread my recently-deceased uncle’s ashes in the Colorado River; we ate at a nice steakhouse in Laughlin and the Rodney’s Vineyard Syrah was amazing (I think it was a 2007 vintage, but I’m not sure). Couldn’t wait to try this bottle………… Sure enough, this is a very spicy Syrah, showing TONS of black pepper, savory herbs (rosemary and thyme especially), rich, creamy oak (but not too much), along with a mineral-infused earthiness. There’s also (obviously) dark fruit elements like plums, black cherries, and blackberries in the flavor profile. This is a beautifully well-balanced wine, despite its 14.9% alcohol level. There’s a perfect amount of acidity and tannins at the wine’s core, which should allow this wine to age/mature beautifully for another 10+ years. At five years post-harvest, it’s drinking very nicely right now. If you like rich, creamy, spicy, fruity Santa Barbara-area Syrahs, this one’s tough to beat.

Medium bodied red. We sipped on its own. Would be better with food.
