Since we are big fans of Surh Luchtel and have enjoyed all of their offerings, we found the 2005 Stagecoach Cab to fall a little short. Perhaps our expectations were too high or this vintage didn't fit our tastes. Ultimately, we found all aspects of the wine unremarkable.

Sweet oak and vanilla aromas jump out of the bottle upon opening, though the fruit characteristics are slow to emerge without ample aeration. Cedar dominates the nose, followed by hints of earth, smoked meat, sage, spice, and mineral. These carry through on the palate, with red cherry, blackberry, currant, and cherry liqueur showing up at the core of this amazingly complex cabernet. The enveloping tannins yield somewhat once the wine has been open for two to three hours.

heavy hitter. had with marinated local sirloin steak with my wife. first hour was dominated by the dark fruits. hours two to three improved with some of the acidity shining through to balance out the fruit. delicious.

Inky, dark purple color. Black fruit dominates the nose with secondary aromas of pencil lead and mushrooms. Tannins that are typical of a wine from Stagecoach Vineyard, this is a big Cab. Decant and enjoy with a fatty steak.
