Drank with patio-grilled Argentinian sweetbreads and tender pork Matambre de Serdo. Jessie, Cathy and I preferred th Ladera Lone Canyon because after drinking only the Catena Malbec the day before, this was a different producer, a different varietal/flavor profile and a bit older. However, both were excellent wines still drinking well past their drinking-up date stage.

Really fine. Powerful, classic Napa Cab nose and doesn't disappoint in the mouth. Smooth and rich with fine, sweet tannins and a long finish. Drinking beautifully now but probably has several years ahead of it.

Initial nose and flavors WOWED me. Dark cherry and tobacco. Let it sit open for two hours and it wasn't as good. I wish I had paid more attention at first. Ended with a strong soy sauce component, while exhibiting a reduced bouquet.

Wow! On the nose, pure cab fruit with an undercurrent of sweet leather and something that hits in the background like an understated spearmint. Also a hint of funk far, far in the background. On the palate, tremendous balance. Dark fruit, cassis and just the right amount of acidity for a wine of this age. Very fine / sweet tannins on the finish. While the acidity is mostly integrated, there's enough left, and enough fruit, to suggest a bottle like this one would have many years to go. Probably the best bottle of Ladera I've had. 93+ points for now, but I really think that for my preferences in mature cabs, that this will continue to improve. At present, not much in terms of secondary character. I think this has the bones to develop that in a favorable way.
