  • In my opinion, this is a pop and pour Cabernet Franc at this moment. I do not believe any additional years in bottle are going to make this one any better. This wine is ready to kick butt. Full bodied, glass coating wine. Nose of black fruit, tar, hint of iodine and some floral notes although the floral has gone from primary to secondary over the years of aging. Palate is rather consistent with the nose, but added some dark cocoa powder towards the finish. Good acidity throughout, but the edges on this wine have definitely softened. Finishes a little bit gritty, which I think is mostly tannin integration. I think this one will hang around for at least another five years. But, this one is drinking most certainly at peak.

  • Just as good as it was at the winery in 2012. Tons of fruit and moderate tannin left here. Some good Rutherford dust but not overpowering. It seems like it has another 5 years at least, although it’s drinking quite nicely now.

  • Monster of a Cab Franc, made by such an excellent producer. This wine was served pop and pour tonight. Silky front, with the slightest hint of age surrounding a still very youthful blackberry and brambly core. The middle of this wine has a slightly sweet, exuberance that still shows how youthful this wine really is in the middle. The tannin on this wine is starting to soften, which allows some of the "funeral flower" aspect of this wine to show, and shows a darker more mysterious side that went with the mushroom and green bean roast, and the front went well with the steak. Ironically, the best pairing for this wine was oatmeal raisin cookie! What a well made wine, that has quickly become one of my favorite Napa producers. This wine is showing some slight rounded edges, but the wine is still holding rather strong. I think this is the oldest wine from this producer that I have had, but I am really wanting to try some older vintages now.

  • Bottle was expressing beautifully tonight. Cork withdrawn intact. Nose of red clay gravel and dirty raspberry on the cork. Nose out of the bottle was very expressive. This wine is darker than the 09, 10, or 11, and I guess it should be so. This wine had more of a nose typical of a rough, dirty full bodied super tuscan. I was getting some green olive notes, raspberry, and graham cracker both on the nose and palate. Thick, dense, full bodied wine with full bodied and velvety mouthfeel. Black cherry and anise in front, grilled meat and new leather in the middle where it turned much darker and smoky to more of a blackberry. Finish still rather tannic, but tannin is starting to soften compared to the more recent vintages. Integration is already crazy on this one -- still has 5-7 years left but I think that this one is drinking about a year under peak. I can't wait to see how another 2-3 years will help this one! Done probably around 2022. Ready to go right now with very minimal decanting.

  • Needs 30 to 60 minute decant. Good structure and earthy notes mid and finish.
