  • The '70 Mascarello is in a perfect spot for drinking today, and is a textbook example of an aged, classic Nebbiolo. It has all the elegance, perfume, and sweetness that I've come to expect from aged Mascarello.

The nose was intensely perfumed with sweet red strawberry and red cherry fruit, smoked meats, mint, earth, roses, orange peel, and a hint of barnyard. On the palate, the wine was extremely elegant and silky, while retaining concentration of fruit. I found smokey meats, sweet cherry fruit, red floral tones, mint, and earth, and a high level of acidity and sweetness.

  • 10 hours of slow-ox upon serving into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Flower” day): Pale garnet to the eyes.

Liquorice infused mature cherry fruits. Spice box.

Very good minerality and saline notes. Better pairing with food actually.

    94 points easy.

  • Decanted for 3 hours and back into the bottle for the journey to a restaurant. I did not get a chance to stand this bottle other than for a few hours. Wine was cloudy which detracted a bit from my experience. Others were not bothered. This was very good, delicate. But never cleared up. Good leather, soy, umami, celery. Soft and supple. Great texturally. As a massive Bartolo fan I know these bottles can be better when they are clearer.

  • The nose is fresh and perfumed with light red fruit, roses, mint, smoke, earth, and a hint of barnyard. On the palate, there is a wave of light, strikingly sweet red fruit complemented by floral tones, fresh mint, and a bit of licorice and earth towards the back end. The '70 Mascarello is beautifully perfumed and gracious in its profile, with an incredible sweetness to the fruit, and comes across as very classic and cool in tone.
