  • Been sober for 5 months and holding into this bottle for a lot longer than that. Decanted close to 3 hours

The color is dark purple through the middle

Nose: cherry stands out at the top, graphite, baking spices, beautiful floral aromatics, wet concrete, gravel, a savory quality to it like green olive/fresh leather. It’s an outstanding and balanced nose that provides a little bit of everything and tends to change with each glass and sometimes between sips. As it opens it gets more difficult to pick out individual characteristics and it’s just a blend
    98/99

The mouthfeel is pretty light and milky, but has a little bit of a syrup-like feel to it as well. The tannins are griply but by no means overpowering or what I would describe as dry. Some new characteristics show up that aren’t present in the nose like outer leaf cigar tobacco, slight mint leaf, cacao, and coffee. The finish is really long lasting and dominated by the deep dark flavors with a little cigar smoke, chewy fresh cut oak, and a lot of savory notes like umami and green olive.

The fruit really fades into the background and becomes a secondary characteristic as this opens up, everything is balanced and will only improve from here, but drinking fantastic now.
95/100 and definitely room to improve

  • Was interesting contrast to 2013 Caymus Special Selection. More subdued with chalky cherry flavors. Good length.

  • Decanted briefly. Still youthful with bitey tannins and lots of black fruit. Should continue to improve.

  • Cooler, bluer, pleasing right away this wine is. The smoothness here is like a made up beauty pageant winner. They are clearly doing sometihng special with this wine when manufacturing it. Velvety refined tannins made the three of us sip this wine like we didn't want the sipping to ever stop. We had a 2013 Dunn Howell Mt. alongside it and the two are apples and oranges, but both putting on quite a show. Had with sauteed chicken cutlets, pasta, and green beans with Katie and Tim. What wonderful wines.
