Obviously from Australia, Eucalyptus on the nose and palate, broad and without finesse, could almost be a cab blend. Coming back from 1 month of extensive winetasting in Australia I can safely say that this is disappointing and far from the best Yalumba and Shiraz in general. ++

Dark garnet with a burgundy hue. Nose of dark red fruits & plum, strong presence of tobacco with nuances of chocolate, blackcurrant and a hint of spicy oak. Light and lively on entrance, beautifully smooth, seamless transition with light tannins. Medium mouthfeel, almost jammy, stopping just short, making the wine savoury with a lip smacking fruitiness. The wine has elegance, gradually building on the body as it moves along. This culminates in a medium length finish, lined with a little vegetal aftertaste. A wine good to drink on its own and goes well with lighter red meats & pasta.

Flight 2, Australia & New Zealand, Wine 8 (blind): The wine was dark purple in colour and offered an expressive nose of dark cherry, blackberry, chocolate, spices, liquorice and some eucalyptus. On the palate the wine showed cherry, blackberry, spices, pepper, liquorice and roasted notes, paired with medium-plus acidity, medium to medium-plus round tannin and good to very good length. The alcohol stood out a bit, but other than that the medium- to full-bodied Shiraz was well-balanced. Good QPR.
