  • Mini-Tasting of Pascal Marchand Wines (Extra Space, Singapore): This was pretty good in spite of being constructed in a style that was not quite ideal for me tastes. It started out with a rather tight nose, with a touch of sweet cherries and berries and more subtle, understated tones of earth and spice and a little flowery hint. The palate had a nice savoury feel to it on the attack with pleasant touches of meat and earth undergirding a nicely juicy mouthful of cherry and strawberry fruit. Good quality there, with a well-balanced and poised feel to it. What I did not quite enjoy that much however was the more heavily extracted feel past the midpalate, with slightly woodsy, rather powdery tannins leading into a tight, spicy finish. A decent wine, with a nice ring of quality to it, but I think it will need time to shed the woody touches and open up.
