Simple Hedonisms Rosé Panel; 5/1/2012-8/5/2012: I didn't get the story on why Wind Gap bottled this under a second label, guessing the price point. A stunning Rose' at a steal of a price at $18, and some still left online.
Native yeast, 100% whole cluster, concrete fermented, aged 5 months in a mix of stainless, concrete, and neutral oak. A blend of 45% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 10% Counoise from Alder Springs, and 25% Trousseau Gris, a gray/white grape from Jura, France, grown across the street from me, in the Fannuchi Vineyard.
Color is a blend of light strawberry and orange, just slightly cloudy. The nose is a fragrant mix of tomato vine, strawberry, raspberry. Its bright, crisp and refreshing in the mouth with watermelon, strawberry, bright cherry, lingering finish that leaves the mouth watering, and the glass quickly empty.
12.2% Alc means you can finish the bottle. Likely quickly.
A brilliant summer sipper, I'd throw a few in cellar for the holidays as well. Drinks wonderfully solo, but would pair well with many summer lighter & grilled fares.

Frank popped this open as a warmup. Cris and I tried to reverse engineer the varietal. I went syrah and he sided with Pinot noir. Wrong! Grenache blend so there actually might be syrah in there. Wrong again, 40% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 25% Trousseau Gris and 10% Counoise.
Served from the refrigerator chilled, accompanied by a cheese platter. Ripe strawberry and watermelon flavors. Good weight and yet a clean mouthfeel, not syrupy. Refreshing summer wine.

This is made by Pax Mahle, comes is a clear bottle so all that pink/rose color just blasts out. In the glass, with a few ounces poured, it turns more light salmon pink. Opened last night, drinking tonight between fridge and room temp, so a chill on it. I find a sweet leather note, also some spice in this wine, as if I am drinking through something rhone. It's distinctive, as if some kind of crushed spice was infused into the wine. Medium texure (as the edges has some polish and weight). Strawberry and watermelon, even some red apple. This is a nice wine, has some texture and some hidden savory, too.
