  • Interesting wine. It took a little time in the glass to come around. Dark plum and red berry with very tame tannin. The is some minerality/salinity here. I can’t put my finger on the finish but it is moderately long.
    This was enjoyable
8/10 - actually this has improved markedly over the several days. Much more balanced than on the first night. Just more complete.

  • It took a while to open up. Decanted back in to the bottle. It was surprisingly good and drank it with homemade jambalaya on Fat Tuesday. It’s not a classic merlot but it’s a very decent wine. Probably at its peak or ever just slightly past.

  • Red fruit, pencil lead and tobacco. In a great place now, tannins subdued, fruit shining through, medium acid, long finish.

  • Nice wine, well integrated, drank over two days. In a good spot, don't see it improving, so drink up

  • Decanted 2 hours. Nose: definite Washington notes of graphite, cherries, thyme, iodine and hints of cola and espresso. Wonderful nose but no classic indication of merlot. Palate: medium body, medium grainy tannin that forms a nice structure. Unusually high acidity for a merlot (cold vintage, likely underripe fruit). Low alcohol, very little sweetness. Nicely balanced structure. Doppelganger for a cabernet franc on the dominating flavors: tart cherries and bell pepper. Graphite, smoke and espresso suggest it's something else. Nothing of the classic merlot palate. Finish: the acidity takes over quickly and pushes the tart cherries. Overall not an impressive wine. The nose is gorgeous but it's downhill from there. No reason to age this. It has the acid to last awhile but there's no real depth of flavor or complexity that suggests there's more than meets the tongue. Does need a decent decant, though.
