When I last tasted the 2000 Château Palmer the better part of a decade ago, I thought it was a bit too overtly oak lactone-inflected for its own good, but at age 20, it's really showing very well, offering up rich aromas of blackberries, plums and loamy soil mingled with hints of cigar ash and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, sumptuous and enveloping, it's textural and gourmand, with powdery tannins, succulent acids, and a long, sapid finish.

Very fun Margaux night - '86 Pavillon vs '00 Palmer. 4hrs of decanting for the latter before dinner and could have even used more air! Both bottles were great although the Pavillon is just a touch past peak and the Palmer needs some more time. That said, both were still enjoyable!

The 2000 Palmer is shaping up nicely with impressive concentration to its rich dark fruit and tobacco profile. Requiring several hours in the decanter to completely reveal its personality, with enough air this unfurls in the glass with softening tannins and a supple texture framing dark fruit flavors that offer good persistence. Very good. Drink now through 2035.

Have this for Xmas dinner and what can I say. It’s like the boss. Close and shut out at the start. Little herb, spice and floral note with little depth. U must be really patient with this. At the 3 hour mark, it blossomed into an incredible sophisticated power house with fitnese and total structure control. The swirl in the mouth brings out indescribable intensity and different notes that keep hitting u. The finish is superbly long. Even after the final drops, I can still it improving. Many many more years to go. Don’t waste it by opening it now. Lovely.
