  • Lots of wine for just two people: (The last of a bottle opened a couple of months ago) Intense. Suprisingly bright acids with lifted deep sweetness. Molasses/rhum, coffee, orange citrus. Still too rich to appreciate more than a small snoot, but pretty incredible stuff.

  • Black. Coats the glass like no wine I've ever seen. Beautiful, heady nose reminiscent of an old vintage Malmsey, and if slightly less refined far more concentrated. Loads of caramelized sugar, iodine, old coffee, tar, menthol, and asphalt-type notes. An initial, almost overwhelmingly concentrated burst on the palate, followed by layered flavors, a good dose of orange zest and anise, and freakish length. Alcoholic and upliftingly volatile. Sharply focused.

A winemaker's "look what I can do" wine. Immensely impressive, and probably the best of its type, but concentrated to the point that it becomes hard to drink. A half-ounce or so pour will go a long way.
