$15 find at grocery outlet. Well aged and ready to drink. I can tell this was a absolute oak bomb at release. But at this point it's doing quite well. Excellent fruit, a touch of vanilla. Still a bit tannic. Great with a steak last night. I'm trying the 2nd 1/2 of the bottle with ribs tonight.
Will pick up more.

Red fruits with tons of vanilla. Medium bodied with red fruit. Overall tough to get a read on the palate as it's a bit muddle and cloaked in oaky vanillaness with a bit of astringency from oaky tannins making for a big wine lacking refinement. Really rough around the edges for your standard syrah (after a few sips I look on the back of the bottle...100% new oak for 22 mo, egads!). Middling finish. Needs time to round out a bit but also could use a little acid and the oak may well outlast the fruit. Some may like it (WA 90pts!), and I do like wines with a bit of structure, but not my taste and at this cost, er...cough! *** UPDATE: Tried a few days out. A bit more evolved but still too much vanilla. I also opened a Piedmontese wine for the table that night and had a bit left in the glass. One glass of home made blend coming up! Fantastic. Black olives, meatiness, earth to match the vanilla (a bit of an odd combo really, but intriguing). Cut the oak tannin down and was much richer and sadly, Parker was not here to endorse my ingenuity. If the original was a 90+, this was surely a 97!
