Picked this up at Whole Foods as an impulse buy around $9. Yes, it was by the checkout register, which as a general rule I never buy anything near the register. However, I'm always looking for a wine to pop without thinking too much about it and to also use for cooking if need be (my wife did use a cup in a carrot and cauliflower soup). A big plus is that the stated alcohol percentage, if correct, is only 9%, which means you can also have it with your breakfast if need be (I haven't but I might try it sometime).
Served chilled. Acidic attack of green fruit and yellow citrus. Some spritz fermentation which I find off putting; an otherwise lively palate cleansing balance of sourness offset by medium weight viscosity that ends with a crisp green wet and dry finish. Good.

Some tiny bubbles upon first pour. Aroma is lime, melon, fresh grass, a bit of cat pee. Surprisingly not thin, with a good acid backbone. Overall, a very refreshing summer white. This is my first Vinho Verde, so I can't compare.

Saturday Tasting at The Gourmet Shop Columbia, SC 4/20/2013 (The Gourmet Shop, Columbia, SC): I liked this Vinho Verde. Sometimes they can be a little bland, but that is not the case here. This one has a little peppy zest with the flavor and the bubbles. Even the color was more golden than typical. The nose had some tropical fruit crispness and a touch of apple and pear. There were more little bubbles than typical for Vinho Verde. There was even a slight hiss as I opened the bottle. There was a more than typical richness to the fruit. Nothing explosive, but wholly adequate to coat the mouth with some lemon lime mixed with apples and a touch of minerality. Smooth finish.
