  • Beautifully balanced mix of rose, tea, cherry, mushroom. Acidity is just right, giving a slight citrus undertow. Seems to be on a stable plateau of development. Drink or hold.

  • Instantly transported to a walk in the forest. It’s fall, and the leaves are down. They were wet from a recent rain, but that has seeped into the soil, so that the leaves crack and crunch, releasing a deep woodsy note. If I kick the leaves it releases the mushroomy scent of damp earth. Stopping to snack on some trail mix, the aroma of dried cherries mingles with the scent of the trail.

It’s crisp from high pressure, and the hills, woods, and rocks bring clarity. The trail sign up ahead points to a turn towards home, but it's better to press on, basking in the company of the trees, inhaling the life force they return to the land each year.

  • Cherries, raspberries and roses, hay, minerals, and a touch of smoke on the nose. The palate has more of the same with some blood orange, a bit of umami, grapefruit and and some fine tannins on the back end. Marcus's wines are often pretty linear but this wine evolves a bit more in both flavor and texture, feeling surprisingly full and rich on the mid-palate and finishing with brisk acidity and ripe tannins. What I appreciate most about this is the perfect balance of savory and fruit components, with nothing even remotely candied about it. It's a new world wine with a very old world profile. This is the best Matello wine I've ever tasted. Really outstanding stuff from my favorite vintage.

  • Mint, herbs, cherry, light oak. High acid and chalky tannins. Very intense and aromatic. Quite unique and built for the long haul. Enjoyable now but I'd wait another couple years before revisiting.

  • Very nice. This is a wine that makes you think "Ahhhhh….." The first sip is somewhat zen-like. As light colored of a pinot that I can remember, the flavor is anything but with a complex layering of flavors. Great QPR.
