  • Rauno and Adithi's Valentine's Day Dinner (Wellington, NZ): My wine served double blind. Fully decanted and left open about five hours before serving, which seemed about right. Deep gold. A beautiful, complex, multi-dimensional bouquet of orange blossoms and other florals, peaches and pears, almond paste, spices and some exotic fruit notes. On palate, rich and opulent. Real fruit concentration and gravitas. Generous and broad with powerful acidity. Girardin is sometimes criticised for its oak handling - and there was toasty oak apparent in this Chevalier - however it was in proportion to the dense, ripe fruit and well integrated with it. "Oak frames the wine beautifully ... quintessential white Burgundy", said Con. Glorious now, it will go another 10 years easily, I'd think.

  • Annual Chicago winos visit - Champagne, White Burg, DRC, La La and SQN (Officina - Washington D.C.): Expressive nose displaying succulent rich yellow fruit, yellow peach, apple pie, sesame/oak, oyster shell, caramel and limestone. There is a hint of botrytis. Excellent concentration, opulent and oily ripe yellow fruit, dense and deeply toned, medium acidity, good mineral expression, and a long ripe yellow fruit driven finish with caramel and spicy spices at the end. It expresses the finesse and balance of Chevalier as well as the ripe and oaky style of Girardin.

  • DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Officina - Wasington, DC): Nicely floral and spiced, perhaps a trace of pronounced new oak. Apple and apple pie character that is ripe and sweet with a hint of botrytis on finish I find enhancing the overall experience. Nicely complex with good+ weight and length.

  • Some Chevalier is fashioned to highlight brilliant acidity, minerality, and elegance., Others, like this Girardin, hold true to the house style: big, powerful, rich, palate staining. Lots of white ash, and crushed gravel on the nose with plenty of white peach and pineapple. It covers the palate with those, in a round, explosive deluge of flavor, just enough acidity to balance all that richness, and a big lasting impression of briney crushed shells; a 90 second finish. We think this is at a peak that will hold for 6-8 years.. It didn’t have quite enough acidity to pair well with Benoit’s gorgeous quenelles in lobster sauce; but it was perfect with her superb sweetbreads. Bravo

  • Clear medium golden lemon colour, slightly paler rim, developing

Nose is clean, medium+ intense aromas of butter, popcorn, lemon, red apples, cocos, oak, flint, hint of tropical fruit, quite complex and developing

Palate is dry, medium+ acidity, alcohol, body and flavour intensity with aromas of butter, lemon, apples, popcorn, toffee, flint/smoke, some tropical fruit, caramell, long finish

Well balanced and structured, intense and big with solid concentration and long finish. Deep complexity but needs either alot of air or more cellartime. Only thing negative is that the alcohol is a bit harsh, otherwise Outstanding quality, 93p
