Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • The color is a deep, lovely purple, holding on to just a touch of translucence. When swirled in the glass the glycerine holds the wine on the side of the glass for a short time, leaving behind a trace of wine with a color I can only describe as that of a king’s robe, the pure purple of royalty. Some of the loveliest optics on a wine I’ve seen in a while. On the nose one finds leather and a kiss of earth. On the palate there is lots of acid with a fair amount of remaining tannic structure; despite the acid content being very high I don’t find it overdone or screechy. Once you get past the structure there is the leather and a touch of earth again layered over pure but understated red fruit with a little sour tinge, almost certainly due to the high acid content. While this is not a terribly complex wine what I love about it is its simple elegance and purity. The finish is clean and lingers for a little while with no flaws to be found anywhere. While I did not have it with food it is the type of wine that would absolutely sing with a proper meal.
