It’s been a few years, it’s been a real long day, and we deserve this wine tonight. Alongside Taj Indian in Cincinnati. Easy and approachable at pnp. Grape’y, mature and a little savory, but not too far so. Day 6 and really holding on better than expected. Maybe best text. Savory and broth-y. Grapey grape. Excellent and in no rush. Extend the drinking window substantially. To 2035 Goes great with Coconut Le Croix…

Actually a beautiful wine, lighter than some Austrian Rieslings, elegant with honied notes (despite being totally dry), white peach, pear, and wildflowers. Just a hint of petrol on long minerally finish., A-

Golden color. The nose has flavors of citrus, slightly oxidative notes, lemon zest, oranges, nuts, and minerals. Nice acidity on the palate with more citrus and crushed rocks. Long finish. Very well balanced and complex wine that demands attention and makes you think. Great stuff!

(Nikolaihof Riesling "Steinriesler") ($81.00) “Riesler” is an archaic term for Riesling. Saahs wanted to see how a wine might age in cask without sulfur if it were an ordinary and not a grand wine to begin with. The first example was a glorious 1999, offered two years ago. So what do they do for an encore? Offer something even older. This is a masterpiece of time, nature and instinct. Less “humble” than that ‘99 was, and more insanely, dauntingly complex. I could detail its three paragraphs worth of nuance if I had 40 minutes to study it. Let’s just say, a perfect positive oxidation, a whole encyclopedia of wild flowers and herbs, a mélange of every possible salt, and the gentlest note of allspice and pink peppercorn. I don’t care what it costs — don’t miss it. + + +

Absolutely amazing riesling carried back from the Nikolaihof wine tavern in Mautern just after bottling in 2012.
Secondary but paradoxically fresh! Stone and stone fruit, a little bruised apple, and an elegant, lean structure.

Oxidative. Fruit is fading and acid is there but feel like this should be better. Moderate petrol. Seems this is a tad OTH at this point.
