At first I wasn't much impressed with this and thought I opened it too early. Dark and brooding. After 30 mins, it had a VA/animal/barnyard note that was a bit off putting. After an hour this was gorgeous.
Nose of red fruit, licorice, saddle leather, thyme, and blood. Very dark, no bricking, and I don't sense any of the 14.5% abv. (it does have some legs). Still some hairy tannin but plenty of red fruit and acid to keep aging it. I think it is still a few years from peak. Rule of 15 on this. Great value.
At $50, I'd buy this over many top rated Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Still strong, well integrated, delicious blend. Drink or hold, but likely at its peak.

solid interesting and starting to get secondary notes. Long smooth finish. I'd guess this is near peak, but plenty of time left too.
