Very sweet and caramel on the nose and palate. This is less refined than the 1971, and stands in stark contrast to it, despite both being the same varietal (100% baco) and almost exactly the same age (50 years!) and same date of bottling. This one is chock full of flavor almost like a sweet sherried scotch except of course with much more finesse and femininity. I’m sure some will love this but for us the 1971 is the clear winner.
Tasted at Ets Martin in St Emilion. Price per bottle is €195.

Now, here we're getting into the aromas I enjoy: figs, apricots, plums, caramel, then more nutty and chocolatey on the palate. I'm not getting as much leather or tannin as I usually like to get in old armagnac, leading me to think this is on the fine rather than rich side of the spectrum, but I tasted this at the end of a 3-hr long tasting w Martin Scott, so maybe my palate was fatigued.
