  • From a producer whose 1997s are usually very much unlike 1997s, this one opens up more in line with what you'd expect to get out of a hot vintage, with raisined and figgy aromas and a big blast of fruit. It takes a bit of time in the decanter to settle down and civilize itself but eventually the sur-maturite dials itself back to something nice and plummy, though still quite deep in complexion, and even the mouthfeel slims down to something borderline feminine and refined.

  • Beautifully aromatic, with earthy and red fruit aromas. Great acidity and depth in the mouth. A lovely wine, at its peak.

  • Birthday Dinner (Home, Millbrae): 1oz of settled sediment. Light ruby, some bricking expected for age though overall youthful color; nose is expressively aromatic with red fruit, strawberry, bramble, forest floor; palate is light bodied, transparent pure red fruit but with a hint of density on the palate, nice depth, integrated tannins, medium-plus acidity, persistent through the midpalate but not perpetually after; finish is medium length. I think a nice Bonnes Mares with a transparency of fruit but with a density to the palate which is enjoyable. The complexity is fairly good, the length could be a bit longer. I think this is really enjoyable and at maturity now, will drink well for 5-8 years. 93
Day 2: Definitely a bit of oxidation in this glass, but it still shows pretty good complexity. I wouldn't recommend this much air, but it shows that the underlying quality of the wine is pretty good.

  • Wow! THIS is why I love burgundy.... red and dark cherries, dirt, and a lovely spearmint on the nose and pallet. Continued to evolve over a couple of hours in the decanter. Impeccable balance with soft fruit, nice acid, and very fine tannin. Long and complex finish. This is really good now, but seems to have the bones to go a lot longer.

  • Jadot Dinner with Frédéric Barnier (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): In 88/95/97/98 vertical. Open two hours before serving. Combination of red and black cherry with savory spice on both nose and palate. Dense from beginning to end. Powerful structure in the middle with a long, softer finish. Very elegant throughout. Very good now, possibly with upside. This will drink wonderfully for decades.
