  • My last bottle of this wine was in january 2016 and since then it has developed in a considerably better way than I thought. Lovely glowing and youthful red colour. While the wine cannot belie the vintage with high acidity and still quite firm tannin, there is wonderful complexity emerging on the nose: Decadently sweet red fruits, flowers, some iron and occasional whiffs of licorice. In the mouth the wine has enough extract to balance its sizeable structure and dryness. However, standouts are the clarity of flavours and the seriously stony aftertaste. Above all the wine feels very youthful. While a great food wine for now, it might turn into a stunner! Probably my best wine from Alain Jeanniard so far. 91+(+)

  • Right now this wine is all about structure. Strikingly dark color, shy nose. In the mouth initially quite acidic and tannic, later mellowing a bit. Bone-dry. Only after two hours in a decanter some generosity emerges, but all in all the wine is years away from maturity.
I really like the symmetry and power, which makes me hope for the future, but on the other hand, the wine will probably never be a charmer, due to its lack of "fat", its pronounced acidity and dryness. A food-wine.
I have two bottles left and won't open them before 2018/19.
