Grand Cru White Burgundy Fest: Mostly front palate at first, all treble, lacking bass. However, more air did it well and it started to fill out in the middle. 2011s seem to need quite a bit of air right now.

Well this was just stupendous. The oak is nearly fully integrated, completely congruous with the wine’s substantial body. Flinty, mottled of white melon and smoke. On the mouth it’s explosive and long, buttery just to the right amount, fully rounded and tongue coating.

[Magnum] Clear pale yellow colour. Fortunately a completely clean bottle. I am critical of my bottles at a group tasting but I think this was an honest smoke show tonight. Traces of the signature Leflaive reduction / sulfur / smoke nose and more in the way of light golden tropical fruit. Booming / wafting nose. Bombastic and tropical. Rich and dense but not heavy; zippy. Both mineral and creamy. Loads of yellow fruit power and energy. Lots of life ahead. Precise and lengthy. Very impressive, very lucky.

This wine is so good. We drank this along with three other superstar whites, and it drives such a "superior" white burgundy profile (i.e., there is a a lot of white burgundy out there, but only a few producers that deliver a unique profile that defines the region). This wine’s bouquet just pulls you into the glass with its mix of mineral, wood, floral and oak. It is light and clean on the palate and the finish. With premox behind us, Leflaive is delivering the goods.
