  • Tasted over 2 hrs
-full dark red with purple tinge minimal clearing
-lovely fragrant dark berry wet stone
-med/med- acidity, most of the fruit has faded but there is a sweet pruney medicinal element that melts into a mildly hot finish with caramel roasted bitter tar notes and med tannins
-no overt maturity but I think this would have been better several years ago while there was still generous fruit hanging on its hot and roasted skeleton

  • Much better now than 9 years ago, when I gave it 88 tops. This has gone to a good brunello level and is at a perfect spot now. Tasting it blind, I couldn't guess syrah at all. No barnyard, no brett, all pretty dark berries and gentle caramel in the background. Glad this came around.

  • deep colour, nose plums and liquorice a bit hot, warm fruit on palate heat prominent, a little stewed. OK with food and certainly plenty of fruit but not my style.

  • Serious wine with classic Syrah profile. Some medicinal notes on the nose initially. This is at or close to peak, in my opinion, but needed time to develop.

  • Oooh. Great Rhone Shiraz. Only disappointment is that I only bought three, and opened the first of those far too early. If I had more I wouldn't keep it much longer. There is still several years of life and development in this wine, but I can't see that it would be better in 5 years, so why would you wait?

Opened a touch too cold, but decanted and given an hour before drinking. Strong initial aroma, almost port-like, with lots of fruit, but enough age to ensure a balance and depth of flavour with a clean palate. Still very full bodied, but without that rough metallic/tannin edge that can interfere with younger wines.

I'm already looking forward to the 2004 and 2005...
