  • If you still have bottles if this in your cellar, don't worry about the "drink by" date on this, as it's good for at least another four years or more, if cellared properly. It just now seems to be hitting full stride and has improved and become much more nuanced since I last enjoyed back in mid-2011.

Cellared at 55 degrees since purchased in 2008. Cork starting to show seepage at around 50%, but the wine was pristine when poured into a decanter. Lots of residual sediment in the bottle. Comprised of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carignan.

Big, dark, very full bodied, and powerful in both the aromatic profile and the palate. Complex aromas of dark cherry, spicy mixed red and blackberry, espresso, sweet pipe tobacco, vanilla oak, savory smoked meat, and piney forest floor. Powerful, deep, rich, and layered flavors yielding black licorice, dark chocolate covered cherries, spicy red berries, chewing tobacco, rich espresso, and some chewy, meaty flavors. The structure and acidity are well integrated and support the richness, complexity and flavor of the fruit while also supporting a great lasting finish. Great food wine. An outstanding wine.

  • Still inky purple with good weight and viscosity. It opens up quickly in the decanter. Plenty of blueberry, tobacco, and spice on the nose. Very evolved and complex at this point. Mild and easy drinking with soft tannins and a smooth mouthfeel. Quite likable with dark berry fruit, spice, and tobacco on the palate leading to a long, lingering spicy finish. if you like New World, this is Old World with New World style. Very nice.

  • If you're not a terribly discerning wine-drinker, you could easily mistake this for a good, ten year old California cabernet, which isn't too off the mark given that 25 percent of this priorat is cab sav. None the less, soft nose of blackcurrent, cigar box, and red fruit. Some new french oak, to my nose. High alcohol (15 percent), good acidity, and soft, but rounded tannins. At ten years, this wine seems to have structure to last another ten years. Red licorice and spice on the palate, with the alcohol really coming through on the back end.
