decanted one hour, in the glass for 3. slightly cloudy red-ochre, tawny edge; fragrant & spicy dark red fruit florals, w/asphalt & balsamic; mid-weight; cranberry-black raspberry cocktail, espresso grind tannins & gum-clenching acidity.
singleton gifted to me on release, no real experience w/producer to make a considered evaluation. deserved a different food pairing, but wouldn't seek again.

Decanted 1 hour after fighting with a broken cork. The wine continued to open thereafter showing greater complexity, the nose showing tar, sour cherry and musk, with medium depth on the palette and a long finish. Very delightful.

Opened to breathe for 2h. Mature Barolo, fragrant nose of tar, roses, violets, spices, cinammon. The palate has fully resolved tannins, smooth red fruit, more spices, and a pleasant acid finish. Classic, feminine, consistent with my previous notes. Tonight with grilled filet. Alas, my last bottle!

(Ceretto Barolo Bricco Roche) As soon as I pulled the cork on the 2001, I felt the presence of a wine destined for the history books. The aromas that ensued were the dark and musky red roses of my grandmother’s garden, with a little of the warm asphalt of my grandfather’s garage. The palate was like cool water to the parched throat of a desert wanderer, soothing and curative. Hours, days, later the wine was still sailing along on a calm sea of reassurance, as if to say, “I am the soul of Barolo.” Terroir: Bricco Rocche

Classic flavors and classic elegance. Paired with black beans, rice and Cuban pork. It killed.
