Community Tasting Notes (9) Avg Score: 89.3 points

  • Dark red in color with slight fading at the edges. Slightly earthy nose with red fruit notes. A bit hard on the palate with dark red fruit and earth. Hard tannins, good acidity, adequate balance. Finishes moderately long and hard. Past peak. Drink up.

  • Haven't visited this wine in a while, and since I know it doesn't have a lot of life left, here I come. decanted for about 1/2 an hour. Strikingly different from the Grenache-Syrah dominated wines I've been downing lately, and perhaps better for it. Forgot how much white pepper this wine could show, both nose and palate, but very pleasantly balanced with silky black fruit. Shorter finish, not as drying as I remember, but fantastic QPR. Still a rich purple color, but with a bit of bricking on the edges.

  • This syrah certainly shows a bit of bottle variation, and this bottle, while very, very good, fell a bit short of outstanding. Muted nose with hints of blackberry and cassis, lots of black fruit and hints of sour cherry on the palate, acid a bit out of balance, similar to some bottles that I've decanted for an hour plus, but this was a pop n pour. Shorter finish, fairly clean and a bit drying. Silky tannins. Still a great QPR.

  • Very pleasantly surprised. Full body syrah with acid and tannins more subtle over time. I've drank more recent vintages but time did this wine well.

  • Decanted for an hour, which is generally not how I prefer to drink this wine. I usually pop n pour, and after drinking a few cases of this wine, that is almost definitely how it shows best, but this bottle was opened as part of a comparison of Syrahs and shiraz'z. Muted nose, silky smooth on the palate with better acid balance than some previous bottles that I had let sit or decanted. Black Cherry with notes of white pepper on the tongue, rather drying and short finish. Still quite enjoyable, but other bottles have shown better.
