Here we are in 2023 and this wine is absolutely lovely. Rumors it its demise are unfounded. Certainly on the back nine but this is soft, rich, plummy and absolutely delicious. Even a bit of a port note there. A real treat. I don't normally rate wines but this deserves some respect and correction on the scoring.

Although it was a little late for the "Drink by 2006", this bottle was superb. Upon opening the bottle, a subtle fruity bouquet wafted up toward me surprisingly. The wine was initially paired with a smoked gouda as an appetizer, but then moved to the dinner table where it was paired with rosemary roasted quail with oven-roasted new potatoes and buttered haricots. It is worth noting that the longer it was allowed to breath, the more tannic it became although the meal helped sublimate these overtones. I give it a 90 for its outstanding (and surprising) full and rich flavor as well as an overall balance and drinkability; but drink it up soon while you can appreciate it.

A shame I let this go so long. Even at this late date, it had elegance and nose.

The hit of the night. "Liquid chocolate" is what someone described it as. Mellow, lovely.
