  • Borgogno Barolo Riserva vertical tasting at Jeroboams, Knightsbridge.
Nose of floral Wimbledon strawberry, burnt caramel. On the palate the youthful tannins and furry traditional (Slavonian) Croatian oak were tongue-curlingly unresolved making any assessment difficult. But all said, a fine wine in the - very long term - making.
Hold until 2026. Perhaps 92+?+ potential. Patience with all these wines necessary!

  • Nose with cherries and cranberries, some candied berries, hints of tar, some flowery notes, mineral, and just hints of developed notes. Medium-bodied, palate with cranberries, some light-coloured cherries, fine acidity, fine minerality, noticeable tannins, and a somewhat firm aftertaste with berries and mineral. Perhaps a little on the light side for a Barolo from a very good vintage, and still (surprisingly) young, will develop with more time in the cellar. 90(+) p.

I was surprised that this was still so young in style. Borgogno Barolo Vigna Liste 2006 tasted earlier this year (three bottles from one batch) was considerably more developed.

  • Medium, orange garnet colour. Highly aromatic with dried cherries, orange rind, cloves and flint on the nose. Elegant palate with a drying grip. Medium bodied with fresh acidity; medium finish.

  • The wine took 90 minutes to open but it was still not quite there. Classis black cherries, mushrooms, forest floor, light sweet Oak. Smooth, but finish was a short. This wine had no sediment and comes across as being at least 3 - 5 years away from entering its ideal drinking window, at which time it should improve materially and likely put on more weight.

  • Drunk over two days. Tea and tar predominate on the nose, with intriguing soupcons of violets fusing with red fruit liqueur. Tight, but increasingly generous and voluminous palate, with notably softened tannins. At or approaching its ideal drinking window.
