Eight decades of Château-Chalon (back to 1934) with Jean-Francois Bourdy: Jean-Francois called this the best vintage of the 20th century. This is the third year in a row getting to try this wine... awesome. The aromas were rich, offering caramel notes. Really smooth and lovely, with light pine notes. Soft and elegant palate, smooth and soft. Really mellow and rich. Rich and buttery, quite smooth. Unfortunately not as much depth as the previous years.

Wines with Jean-Francois Bourdy, including the legendary 1868 Marc! (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Jean-Francois says 1934 is considered one of the greatest vintages of the the last two centuries. Very deep honey colored. Stick my nose in this wine, and, what... This smells like a mix of mussels and creme brulee, butter, and eggs (Oh, I guess you can simply smell all the ingredients of the creme brulee). It's like a mix of a decedent appetizer of foie gras and a dessert. Beautiful stuff! Smooth palate. Quite lush and amazingly unique. Such intensity. Creamy and wild. Intense on the lovely, deep finish. Lingers a long time. Lots of spice, and great depth. Really fantastic... just a very fine, gentleman of the wine. Enjoyed this bottle even better than the one last year.

Jean-François Bourdy's Decades tasting: One wine from every decade of the 20th century, back to 1904 (E&R, Portland, OR): This one smells a bit older (I know it's ludicrous typing that... like, no shit fox, it's 78 years old... and it's wine). Smells like marshmallows macerated in butter. The palate is rich, with nice depth and tart flavors. No hints of the age on the palate, as this is incredibly rich and creamy, offering primarily lemon flavors, but it's on a paradoxically rich and creamy, yes decedent, texture. Tastes like a caramel lemon desert (but without the sugar)! The finish offers tart acids, and this is very puckering and coating. Intense, grippy as all hell, with a crazy, wild streak to it that is entirely its own and like nothing else I've experienced. The flavors are a combo of yeast, soil, mushrooms, and marshmallows. Sounds totally weird, but it was fantastic. Very interesting, deep, and long finish.
