  • Based on all the other reviews, I was super scared of premox so opened this earlier than I wanted. No premox (thankfully) but no regrets on opening this! My first Ramonet. What a beautifully and complex wine. Upon opening, butterscotch hits you in the face laced with some lemon, minerality, and herbaceous. Didn’t get the mint though but got more tarragon. After an hour, a hint of mint revealed. After two hours, most of the butterscotch faded, minerality came to the forefront with dried flowers and herbs. Lighter on the palate than I expected but gained weight with air. Tons of refreshing acidity lending to a slightly spicy, minerally finish. Eventually the body filled out to med+ and the finish long.

My sister described this wine as incredibly complex but pleasurable to enjoy without thinking.

Question for more experienced wine drinkers: is the strong butterscotch note an indication of premature oxidation?

  • MAN this is a rich sucker...loaded with spice and all things nice! My last note in 2016 said wait till at least 2020...I abided. Still very youthful and coiled like a spring waiting to be sprung...decant is your friend here. The fruit is rich, pure, and golden, with a snappy tart lemon freshness...crushed rock energy...BIG dose of butterscotch oak barrel spice...DON'T throw-up just yet purists...it's very well integrated and works perfectly with this full flavored wine! Has that wonderful limestone chalkiness...dry extract with a little hint of spearmint...pretty floral blossoms and some exotic white honey butter...TOTALLY dig the freshness and youthful exuberance...yet makes you sit back and take it all in with every sip. Built for the long haul...wish I had cases! Great wine here! Score keeps climbing...

  • Side by side against the 2011

consistent notes peach, cream, white florals, underripe mango, saline, lemon, crushed rock, citrus zest and ginger spice. Still retained richness on the palate, although the orchard fruit was a little more underripe for more of a cooler climate feel.

acidity was much more sharp and had a bigger mineral finish compared to the 2011

  • Been a couple and a half years since my last...thought I'd look in on this one again. Still quite young and coiled up like a spring....I should decant this for a couple hours, but don't have the time......rich and ripe weighty fruit, BUT with huge CUT! Has a burnt caramel spice thing that is pretty intense...not off putting, just intense spice, maybe big oak as well....but plenty of freshness and energy with the citrus and crushed rocks, limestone chalk......wonderful youthful feel...shows pure and substantial.....pretty florals with some faint complexities of classic spearmint, honey, white flowers. This wine is built for age...wish I had a case to try over the next 20yrs...won't touch my last one till at least 2020. +pts
