  • Excellent bottle, drink very well right now. Classic Tuscan wine, some of my guests loved this bottle.

  • I tasted it with one of my wine reps. They left me a bottle as a courtesy. Just opened it…unfortunately it was corked. I loved the wine during the tasting. Great dark fruit and lovely tannins combined with an earthiness that really made this wine a great example of a Super Tuscan. The cohesiveness of the elements was what really drew me in. I feel like it’s a wine that anyone can appreciate. A wine to just enjoy or a wine that can be discussed, to be analyzed and thought about. We’ll see if any is still available so I can pick up a case.

  • Corked. Waited too long. My fault.

  • I thought this was a sangio blend, but alas it is a CS/Mer/PV 1/3 of each. probably a better match on the grill than it is for this spinach ravioli with zucchini and the like, but there is no denying this is a fine wine that is currently drinking beautifully. There is nothing about this that speaks to the insane heat that was '03, this is neither roasted nor jammy. This wine has aged flawlessly and reminds me most of (well of course) a well-aged Bx. There is a pluminess and roasted tomato narrative that speaks most to Pomerol, but it could pass for a St. Julien as well. I really dig this as it evolves in the glass. While I popped this for a random Wednesday night, this is a special occasion wine that should be treated as such. My only criticism is the lack of terroir, which is always my criticism for "super Tuscans"; this could be from anywhere. N.B. heavy heavy sediment.

(Do ut Des CARPINETA MONTALPINO) Do ut Des Dear Friends, After the Montaperto offer last week a number of you asked for this wine, the flagship from the winery. I've had a devil of a time finding any at a good price but this was just confirmed and it's a top example. This wine is going to surprise a large contingent of non-believers and it remains one of the finest wines produced in this area in 2003. I would put this up against far more famous wines and I'm quite certain of what the outcome will be (I'm sure I'm not alone in this assessment - you can look up whatever TN's you need to). The 2003 Do ut Des (loosely translated to "you reap what you sow") compares favorably to some of the top 2003 Bordeaux but the varietal blend keeps it firmly entrenched in this area of Italy, near Castelnuovo Berardenga (Siena). An outstanding effort in every respect with a slightly mysterious style that demands a more introspective analysis than most... This parcel is directly from the source with perfect provenance: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for graceful presence in a larger than life vintage We have a terrific price on this wine, about the same as at the cellar door: 2003 Carpineta Fontalpino "Do ut Des"(Veronelli 3/3-star) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy8267
