14.4% abv. Bottle from a "mystery pack" at a recent auction. Capsule was completely glued with dried wine residue and the cork showed many breaches prior to pulling it. It came out very easily with a waiter's corkscrew (was almost loose), so I figured this was going to be completely oxidized, but, surprise, this was actually in pretty good shape! No sign of oxidation at all! Pretty burly OR Pinot, but very good at this stage. Amazing showing, considering the circumstances.

A really good wine, one I have had a number of times. Still drinking well, doesn't show signs, yet, of being on its downhill side. Black fruit; tannins have mellowed but are still solidly there in the background. This confirms once again that I can never go wrong serving a Lachini PN to guests. It was one of the wines we drank with Easter dinner. Interestingly, the cork was a bit loose when i tried to pull it with at "rabbit" cork puller and pushed the cork into the bottle. But the appearance of the cork was fine and there was nothing i could detect that had affected the taste and quality of the wine.

I know Ron Lachini and enjoy talking wine with him. If Tanzer gives a Pinot a rating in the high 80's (in this instance an 88) you know you have a winner. Tanzer is a very harsh judger of Pinots and he likes this wine. Should continue age well. Every cellar should have a few bottles.

Another good 2004 Pinot Noir, though probably could use a little more time in the bottle. A bold nose with aromas of its dark fruit, which also figure prominently with the early acidity in the mouth. Hints of pepper and leather. Good finish with balanced to slightly strong tannins. Overall good structure, which should hold up well and improve in the coming 2-5 years.
