Opaque, ruby. Lots of inky depth on the nose, with aromas of tar, caramel, cocoa, cassis, raisin. The inky blackness continues to the palate as well as some of the fruits, still a bit candied, but balanced well with the grassy freshness and integrated with the coffee and nutty oak flavours. Good tannic structure, and lots of persistence in the fruit flavours. Great wine!

We finished our Pintia 2003-2008 vertical tasting and, despite being tipsy, we wanted to continue sipping...shocking, we know ;-). Pintia is a tough act to follow, but we were confident Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz (Portugal's version of Tempranillo) was up for the challenge!!! She did not disappoint!!! This wine is produced only when the winemaker thinks the vintage is superlative. We had to decant as everyone was eagerly awaiting what we consider to be one of Portugal's top producers and wine. Bright, soft purple colour...very inviting! Aromas of dark berries with sophisticated flowers conjuring up memories of walking through the expensive and sophisticated perfume section of a top-shelf department store. Complex, sophisticated and nicely integrated oak on the nose. If we did not like sipping so much, we simply would blissfully fall to sleep sniffing this heavenly fragrance. On the palate, we experience soft, ripe fruits with elegant tannins, statuesque structure (think Nicole Kidman) and a long, lingering finish. Oh Our Ears and Whiskers, this wine is rocking right now and has a few more years. Pretty good QPR. A winner from A to Z!!!

Day 1: Deep purple syrup. Tobacco. What is this? Day 2. Thick, luscious, modern, more tobacco...really came into its own with some Tunworth cheese and an American Spirit. Totally confused by the change over two days. Rec of Miguel at Hed.
