  • A deep golden hue and rich body to match. On the nose; pineapple, honey, marmalade, nuts, flowers and butter. Exotic. Intriguing. Lovely complexity. It almost smells like scotch at times. The attack is slow to build but reaches an admirable intensity as the oiliness of it gradually suffuses the palate. It is somewhat lacking in acid but it has enough other attributes that one doesn't miss it that much. Finish has good length. Should you buy it? Well, if you're not on a tight budget and you're looking for something uncommon and interesting to dive into then give it a go. The nose alone is quite a trip.

  • WOW!!! Patience really pays off. We had the Beaucastel VV at Beaugreviere last month and I cannot say that it was bettet than this GV.

Golden straw color. Nose of toasted almond and vanilla. This wine has seen some oak but at this point it is fully integrated. Palate of Creme Brule, vanilla and a hint of citrus at the end. A fiull 45 second finish.

This is really good stuff. Still cannot beat the Beaucastel VV year-after-year but this is what can be done in the southern Rhone with skill.

  • The nose is vibrant and heady; fragrant and floral with exotic fruits and honey. On the palate it is clean and precise; an oily texture with nice mouthfeel, but it is also fat and you are aware that it has power as well as elegance. (14% alcohol.) It has aspects that remind me of a Hermitage white, rather than a Chateauneuf. The finish is impressively long, but the oak is dominant at this stage. Has it been over-oaked or is it just much too young? I think it's the latter, and that it has the fruit to take the oak over time, but time will tell.
I have probably had around 10 white Chateauneufs, and I would put this in the top 3, after the Beaucastel Roussanne Veilles Vignes and Clos des Papes. It would be interesting to taste it against the Beaucastel; I think the Beaucastel would be clearly superior, but at half the price this is good value. dg
