  • Toffee, rancio, complex; long and intense. My best Rivesaltes so far.

  • A blend of Grenache Blanc (50%), Grenache Gris, Grenache Noir and Macabeu. 18% alcohol, 112 g/l residual sugar, 4,7 g/l acidity.

Very slightly hazy, but still fully transparent bronze yellow color. Very complex and tertiary nose concentrated by the age; wizened aromas of dried apricots, honey, perfumed tones of dried flowers, a little bit of syrupy character, light burning sensation from the high alcohol, a hint of oxidative nuttiness and a touch of roasted exotic spices. The wine is full-bodied, concentrated and sweet on the palate with somewhat noticeable alcohol heat and bold flavors that initially feel very sweet with notes of cloudberry jam, apple purée and honey, but slowly turn drier and tangier, towards more savory spectrum of peppery spice, apple peel bitterness, burnt sugar. There are some understated notes of tertiary leather character, roasted walnuts, pomelo and toasted turmeric as well. The wine is medium-to-moderate in acidity. The sweet-ish finish is rather hot but also very complex and remarkably lengthy with pretty intense flavors of maple syrup, chopped nuts, some toasted turmeric, a little bit of raisins, a hint of smoky character and a touch of caramel and burnt sugar bitterness.

A very complex, intense and ridiculously delicious fortified wine with layers upon layers of tertiary flavors. Yet, despite all its charm, this wine didn't reach the spectacular heights of the wonderful Château Mossé Rivesaltes 1949 - but only just. However, Mossé 1949 also felt more developed and aged than this vintage 15 years its senior, so it might be that this wine could actually continue to develop from here and be equal to 1949 - maybe even surpassing it? A spectacular Rivesaltes that drinks now and will continue to do so for many more decades to come. Maybe a bit pricey for the style at ~190€, but fortunately delivers quite an experience nevertheless.

  • Fabulous!! I'm very impressed. Toasty nose of cinnamon, allspice, rotten floorboards (GOOD ones), and caramel. Palate of vanilla, more caramel, burnt lemon meringue, super long finish. Insanely soft and smooth. And it's surreal to be drinking something that's older than my parents.
