  At 33 years, this was still holding its own, the fill level, foil, label and importantly, the cork, were all in ideal condition, considering their age. The cork was pristine and held together well when extracted using an Ahso two pronged cork puller.
  
  Dark garnet colored with a slight brownish gray hue started to set in showing its age, medium bodied, complex, concentrated blackberry and plum fruits with layers of currant, mocha, anise, leather, sage herbs and hints of eucalyptus. on a long finish of bright acidity and ripe tannins. Time to drink and we caught this in time.

  The cork broke as I was removing, so I was a bit nervous about this. But the color was beautiful, showing no age to speak of. Still plenty of red fruit and good tannic structure. Over about 3 hours, the wine held its own, and I thought it better at the end of the evening than at the start. For $17 on WineBid, this was an amazingly good, aged, but not yet fully mature, CA Cab. Drank with salumi and home-made pizzas as we planned a wine trip.

  This bottle is miles ahead of the last I popped from the same source - beautiful nose with classic age and leather; Excellent body - very full, great build, great depth; A very nice edge; Fruit itself offers a hint of possible overrippeness but this has worked through the fruit enough that it doesn't impact enjoyment of the bottle; Very consistent and long finish - stronger than I might have expected for its age but with exactly the aged refinement for which I would hope; Best and last of 3 bottles - significant bottle variation and drinking condition of this one suggest drinking up
