  • 92-93pts. At the apex of its development. My favorite chilean Sauvignon Blanc - but only the 'Los Boldos Vineyard' vintages are really worth to search for. Excellent QPR here.

  • Brought by a friend, and drank together with two Sauv Blanc Terrunyos from 2009. All of them were not at their best upon opening - so decant or slow-ox this wine for at least half an hour before consumption.

And this was the best of the trio, although not as good as the last time I had it. This was a bit fresher and cleaner than the other two, and more mineral - probably due to the change of vineyards, from El Triangulo to Los Boldos, which AFAIK is closer to the coast and more influenced by the cold Humboldt Current System. The flavor profile was very similar, with plenty of tropical fruits like passion fruit, green apples and lime.

    91pts this time around.

  • Seafood risotto with friends - this bottle was brought by a couple which had just returned from Santiago and had visited Concha y Toro.

This is an absolutely delicious Sauvignon Blanc, and probably the benchmark in Chile for this varietal. Very expressive on the nose - one could smell the sea breeze which definitely influenced in a positive manner the development of the grapes (Los Boldos is just 15 kms - less than 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean - it is the coldest part of Casablanca Valley).

In the mouth, it was full-bodied but not cloying at all - I'm not a big fan of Sauv Blanc with food because it usually is overwhelmed by it, but this bottle had such a good structure and spine it was a perfect match. It was almost as good as a Christian Moreau Chablis Les Clos Clos des Hospices Grand Cru (from 2012) we opened immediately after.

Great wine - pricey, OK, but the quality is there. Solid 92 pts, maybe 93. But a disclaimer is needed - I'm completely biased with Casablanca wines - I really, really like them!
