A concentrated and stalwart Bordeaux blend. Pleasant nose of dark chocolate, espresso, and hints of minerality. Juicy attack, solid mid palate, medium finish. At the price point, I prefer two bottles of good vintage Cru Bourgeois.

Paired with chicken marinara spaghetti and veggies. Nose of sweet mocha, cocoa, toffee, and cherry. Palate follows with tangy strawberries, leather, herbs, and green pepper. Finish is well-integrated for such a high-alcohol wine. There is a dominating wave of fresh fruit juice that peaks at mid-palate and subsides through the ending, bringing you back full circle to that mocha and cocoa. Nicely done. Drink now or hold for 5+ years.

(Mackey Vineyards RAC Red Wine Columbia Valley) Named after the Mackey’s grandfather Roger Adams Converse, this is a moderately aromatic wine with roasted coffee bean, red currant, pencil lead, cherries, and light herbal notes. The palate is well structured while still retaining a great sense of elegance and vibrancy that is consistently found in the winery’s style. 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot. Dionysus (56.4%), Kiona (26.3%), and DuBrul (17.3%) vineyards. Aged 22 months in French oak (60% new). 14.9% alcohol. 122 cases produced.

Surprised by the price point; ripe, long layers of fruit and integrated tannins, good acidity holding together well
