It’s like someone took a bottle of well aged Dead Arm and a bottle of half decent Paulliac, added a few blackcurrents (some gunpowder) and wizzed it in a nutri-bullet. And it works! It might be lacking some identity, but this has great intensity and it’s packed with character. It has some complexity, there’s no noticeable heat from the relatively high abv and it’s massively drinkable. I really enjoyed it.

Very new world but not overtly fruity or jammy in any sense. Typicity of Syrah was a bit lost on the nose and palate. Not my type of wine as it doesn't have the depth or complexity for the price.

Another one where almost everyone thought it was a Bordeaux blend. Made in a clean and modern style but didn't have anything that stood out. Over time it became rather disjointed and alcoholic, almost like an unbalanced Aussie Shiraz.

Tasted double-blind from a small bottle from Zak. High toned with some VA and marzipan. Reminds me of hermitage now with those notes and a bit of blood or meat or viscera. Savory and sour on the palate. This is opening up w air and doubling down on its exotic high-toned flavors - very complex and laying it all out there. The palate is super gutty-bloody-meaty with tons of savory green and mineral notes -with an exotic sweetness in the mix. The palate is not focused at all - gushing w flavor and some VA and fuzzy, but it is delicious and it works - so much savory and minerality that it holds together. Finish is savory and gutty and delicious. I was thinking all over the place, but my experience with a few Herimtage wines let me to stick with Syrah. Was about to go Rhone, knowing Zak's cellar, but something at the last minute told me no - it was too sun-kissed, so I went w S France, but that's as far as I could go. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate -5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5/20.
