Surprisingly youthful black cherry color with relatively little signs of age. Very intense and a bit developed nose with aromas of somewhat wizened red cherries, some savory earthiness, a little bit of volatile nail polish character, a hint of mature leathery character and a touch of sweet dark fruit. The wine feels quite full-bodied, ripe and smooth on the palate with rather powerful and quite concentrated flavors of savory dark berries, some succulent plummy fruit, a little bit of sweet boysenberries, hints of savory oak spice and a touch of licorice. The wine is only medium in acidity, yet it still comes across quite structured with the ample tannins that lend nice grip and sense of firmness to the wine. The finish is quite grippy with remarkably long, beautifully developed and quite intense flavors of wizened dark fruits, even some pruney character, a little bit of woody bitterness, hints of ripe blackberry and a touch of toasty oak spice.
A beautiful, harmonious and hands-down impressive Rioja Gran Reserva. Overall the wine feels a bit lower in acidity in comparison to the Gran Reserva 1990 tasted alongside, but also more powerful, tannic and less oaky in style. Although I like high acidity, the style is otherwise into the direction I like more - or then it's just the vintage variation doing its magic. Overall the wine is very firm and although not particularly young, definitely far from coming across as very aged. It feels like that the wine won't only keep, but also develop for many more years. Very lovely effort.

Deep garnet. Smoky, dark fruited nose, still quite youthful. The odd whiff of something slightly musty on the nose but doesn't carry through to the palate. Medium/full bodied, rich, blackcurrant fruit, tobacco, ripe, soft tannins, decent depth and a very good length harmonious finish. Youthful but certainly approachable.

Ruby red-brown color. Cocoa, cherry, marzipan on the nose. Soft tannins on the finish. Probably could age another few years. Wish I had a bunch of these. Also, a certain "herb-ness" on the nose and finish is intriguing. Would have said 93, but surprisingly hot for a 94 - but Im not complaining.
