Last minute wine lunch meetup at SSG. My bottle. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Thin legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of aromatic red cherry fruit, fragrant earth, transparent minerality, some sweet tea leaf herbs with more air. Developed. On the palate, dry, lovely high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium- tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of elegant red cherries, strawberry, stony minerality, sweet tea leaf herbs, light earth. Crispy long crystalline finish. Very very good quality. Probably drinking as good as it gets though this bottle definitely felt like there was no danger of going downhill anytime soon. On the thin side but so elegant that it leaves you marveling at its transparency and whimsicality. Practically impossible to place it as a Savigny in a blind.

Well-made wine. On the nose, rose petal, red fruit, sous-bois and herbs & cardamom/coriander type of spices with a pronounced stemminess (which can also be interpreted as oak spice, as one blind taster noted.) In the palate, the fruit is overwhelmed by a certain astringent acidity and still youthful structure. I would leave this wine alone for another few years to a decade because right now, mid-90s Bize SLBs are fire drinking at 95 level.

Nice nose with red fruit - wild strawberries, cherries, lingonberries and red currants. Also a good sprinkling of spice. Clove, allspice, bay leaf, sage, a hint of mint and just a touch of smoke. On the palate initially a bit thight but opens up with more of the herbs and spices. The fruit and the overall feeling is a bit darker than on the nose. With a cool, earthy minerality, elegant and racy body and some tannic bite this is not a soft or plush wine, rather a tightly wound racehorse. Very good lenght where the spices come to the fore. Nice wine!

2002 Burgundy @ Noizé: Full garnet. Again, that characteristic hint of coal tar that I seem to get with abide regardless of vintage. Good density of fruit, dark and savoury, but a little herby. Not my style.***1/2

Dark fruits on the nose with still some oak notes showing. Became more balanced with air with some nice floral notes appearing and the oak taking a back seat. Structured and intense, this clearly needs more time and will be a great wine in 4-6 years.

(Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses) Good cherry red color; light, ripe cherry and red fruit nose; delicious, seamless, cherry and red fruit palate with a little spice; medium finish
